Detects movement in the area where it is aimed.
"Passive Infra-Red" (PIR) sensor picks up motion by sensing the difference in infrared radiation reaching its ‘eye'. The sensor has built-in circuitry to help eliminate false alarms and increase sensitivity.
Use when you want to know if someone is moving about in a general area (room, lobby, entryway, corridor, etc. The sensor picks up any motion in its range. Useful for larger location applications (like the "whole room" rather than "that chair"). The motion detector is about 5" x 3" x 2" .
Not difficult to do, but takes a little time to get the range and direction right. Outdoor use is OK but because of sensitivity to any motion (insect, falling or blowing leaves) you might get more false alarms. The motion detector can be mounted on the wall or ceiling, or it can stand on the floor or on a table top. Mounting bracket available below.
Best when you want to be alerted to any movement in the defined area.
(When you choose the Wireless Option you get the Motion Detector and a Wireless Module.) The wireless version uses 2 AAA batteries.
Direct-wired and Wireless Sensors
What is the difference between a "wired" and "wireless" sensor? This describes whether there is a wire connecting the sensor to the Control Unit. Sensors use the optional Wireless Module to communicate with the Control Unit without wires. Click here for more information on how the system works. Note: To use a Wireless Sensor, your Control Unit must support wireless connection ("Wireless Sensor Capable TCU").
